In 2019, Red Kite were commissioned by Stafford Borough Council to prepare consultation and development plans for the open space at Holmcroft, Stafford. The proposals are being informed by a process of transparent and robust consultation with a project Design Working Group, Project Board, local residents and organsiations. The development plan will then be formulated to identify overall priorities and detailed cost estimates to create an overall masterplan to allow for investment of approximately £435,000 in play facilities and infrastructure..
An overall vision for Holmcroft has been developed: ‘Bringing natural play to Holmcroft through an imaginative, physically challenging and inclusive all-age play experience to stimulate the mind, body and soul. Recrafting the existing open space into a vibrant community resource by re-energising infrastructure and the natural attributes of the space, in order to provide multi-generational formal and passive recreational opportunities’. The proposals include a dynamic play area; younger play space with natural play opportunities; outdoor gym equipment; wheeled sports park; a Multi-sports games area with practice areas; a loop pathway; picnic and seating areas; wildlife zones; bulb and wildflower planting; and a dementia-friendly approach to design.
