In 2017, Red Kite Network were appointed by Stafford Borough Council to provide landscape design services for the improvement of Charnley Road Playing Fields in Stafford. Following a site appraisal and analysis, we carried out consultation to gain feedback on sketch proposals for the site. A final masterplan was then prepared, with the aim of providing a wide range of play and recreation facilities for all members of the community, arranged to maximise opportunities for all the family to play together whilst still being sensitive to the needs of differing park users. The scheme included an ‘Activity Zone’ suited to the needs of energetic people incorporating a refurbished MUGA, new skate park, play equipment for older children and an outdoor gym. A zone geared towards families included a seating area, a play area for toddlers, picnic area and junior play area all arranged within an attractive garden setting. A peripheral path suited to dog walkers and runners with distance marker posts and occasional seating encircled the site enabling users of the park to exercise whilst experiencing the newly created meadow and woodland area .

Following successful completion of the RIBA Stage 3 concept design, Red Kite were subsequently appointed as part of a team for the design and build of the new £375,000 destination play space and park. We provided detailed landscape design and public consultation services, alongside Jack Moody LCE Ltd (Principal Contractor and project management), Kompan (supply of play equipment), and Canvas (design and supply of skate park).
